Texas Bound
This project explores, “what made the Syrian/Lebanese immigrant experience in Texas unique?” Using oral histories, local histories, and demographic and health data, we investigate topics such as immigrants’ relationship with the US and Mexico border, race, health, religion, geography, and industry. The project will feature an interactive website, a series of four poscasts, documentary film, and the archive of the Southern Federation of Syrian Lebanese American Clubs.
We regard our effort to tell the stories of early Arab immigrants to Texas as an organic project that will grow and change. Thus, we invite you to share your Texas stories for potential inclusion in supplementary editions. Help us share more Texas stories by contributing material to the Khayrallah Center. Every story is worthy of preservation. Contact the Khayrallah Center Archive (kcldsarchive@ncsu.edu), and tell us your family’s story. We seek photographs, letters, documents, oral history interviews, and more. Please include a brief history of your family in the email, and list names, dates, and locations when possible.
