On August 4th, 2020 a chemical explosion in warehouse number 12 in the port of Beirut, devastated the city. The explosion left hundreds dead, thousands wounded, and hundreds of thousands homeless. Leading up to this event, and amid the Covid-19 global pandemic, Lebanon has been facing a political crisis, a failure in its infrastructures, a financial crisis and widespread dissatisfaction with the political class and their corruption. 

Our goal with Re-Collecting Beirut is to create a safe space for those in Lebanon and in the Lebanese diaspora to share their feelings and thoughts about the events and aftermath of that day whether that be through writing, photography, video, audio, memes or Tweets. Through your various expressions we will create a permanent record of these events in Lebanon, and show how the explosion affected people all across the world.
